Make room in the inn

December arrived, Christmastime.
A friend asked,
Am I making room in the inn?

No, in fact, I realized,
because I’m feeling busy, stressed,
waiting for Christmas to somehow
break through my to-do list
and present itself to me.

So, I stopped, just for a moment,
all the human doing
and invited the Christ-idea,
the presence of Christ, Truth, in.

I began to notice the beauty
of the frost crystals on the branches,
to feel the message
of the hymn playing in the background,
to honor the light
in the child’s eyes as she took her parent’s hand,
to welcome the Comforter
revealing the divine light that accompanies
        and heals,
to know the stillness
of the voice in consciousness promising,
“Lo, I am with you alway.” Matthew 28:20
Yes, in this inn,
now there is room for the Christ.
