Shining a light on the weekly Bible Lessons published in the Christian Science Quarterly®

Is the Universe, Including Man, Evolved by Atomic Force?

Known to God from eternity are all His works.

—New King James Version

With this declaration, the Apostle James (Jesus’ brother) summarizes his argument to a council of believers. Some followers of Christ, known as Judaizers, claim that Gentiles must be circumcised; Peter, Barnabas, and Paul strongly disagree (see vv. 1–11). Supporting his fellow apostles, James cites the Hebrew Bible (see vv. 16, 17Amos 9:11, 12) as evidence that everyone is eligible to seek and find God—and he advises “that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God” (v. 19).
