Efforts, appreciation, and healing for all
Dear Reader,
My heart goes out to an author who wrote in about feeling disappointed. An article submission had not been accepted, and the writer wanted to know if it was because our standards are too high, adding, “If these are our publications, then let us share our ideas with others. Seems simple enough to me.” If only it were that simple!
I speak for myself, and for many others who have submitted articles that have not been published: We know how much effort goes into writing an article and how disappointing it can be when it is not accepted—something we all have experienced, even those of us who are editors. So, we deeply appreciate the effort every contributor makes to share in writing an insight or healing to bring the message of Christian Science to the intended audience of the Christian Science periodicals, which is all humanity—those familiar with Christian Science, and many more who have a spiritual hunger and need for healing that Christian Science can fulfill.
Mary Baker Eddy prayed for God’s guidance in how the periodicals she established could bring the healing and saving message of Christian Science to all humanity. The workers here strive to honor this high goal and to help writers develop their articles accordingly. Mrs. Eddy knew from her own experience as Editor of her magazines that it is no easy task for authors to write with metaphysical clarity that all can understand. It takes consecrated prayer, persistent effort, and learning on the part of editors and writers to make these publications the best they can be.
The wonderful thing is that as we lean on God while writing, self-editing, and working together, we grow in our spiritual understanding and healing ability. And healing reaches others from these efforts even when an article is not published.
We are deeply grateful for every submission we receive from generous authors, even though we can’t publish them all. We value the constant flow of articles and testimonies coming in that enable us to choose the best topics for each issue of our magazines in order to feed the spiritual hunger of readers. So, please continue writing.
By the way, we have writing guidelines for you online at jsh.christianscience.com/submit. And we look forward to continuing our conversation with you at conversation@csps.com.
