Dizziness ends

One Sunday morning, I became dizzy in the middle of a church service while reading aloud the Bible Lesson-Sermon (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) as First Reader of my branch church. I wasn’t concerned; I thought the dizziness would go away. But as I continued to read, it got worse. I couldn’t recognize people’s faces in the congregation because my vision was so blurred.

I thought about asking someone from the congregation to finish reading for me, but I decided to go on, since I was still able to see the words in front of me. Immediately, this sentence from the Christian Science textbook, the book from which I was reading, came to thought: “Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 14). As I held to the truth of that statement, I felt better. I was so grateful to be able to finish the section of the Lesson that I was reading, and then to sit and rest and pray until it was my turn to read again. The Second Reader noticed what was going on and offered me water to drink. I was then able to finish the Lesson.

When it came time for me to read “the scientific statement of being” from Science and Health (p. 468) at the end of the service, a very special thing happened. I could feel the impact and power of each word affirming man’s wholly spiritual nature. They sounded so beautiful to me. When I came to the final statement, “Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual,” I knew that I was completely healed. I wanted to cry for joy at this wonderful experience.
