Especially helpful

I just want to say thank you for the testimony submitted by Susie Jostyn [“True growth is only good,” September 15, 2014, Sentinel] about her healing of a growth under her eye. This statement was especially helpful: “There never had been and never would be a false impression of me.” This immediately destroyed anxiety over an issue that confronted me today.

A lot to think about

Thank you very much for Kevin Graunke’s article, “Real preventive care,” in the September 8, 2014, Sentinel. This gave me a lot to think about, as essentially I, too, have been forgetting the preventive care that Christian Science brings in my life. I especially liked Kevin’s reminder to always be grateful for both prevention of illness and healings of a curative nature.

Call to action

[“Winning hearts to God through Christ-healing,” Sue Spotts, September 1, 2014, Sentinel]

Thank you to Sue Spotts for this inspiring call to action. It reminds us of why we are here and, indeed, of our true purpose: to glorify God, to love our neighbor as ourself, and to heal. There is much work before us, and we can rejoice that God is always working with us through Christ, Truth.

Reminded of …

The August 4, 2014, article “ ‘Hope for the best,’ or expect good?” [Jennifer Johnson] reminded me of our Leader’s poem “Hope” (Mary Baker Eddy, Poems, p. 45). The human tendency to attach the tail “prepare for the worst” even to the phrase “expect good” was wisely discarded by Jennifer Johnson.

As she said, “I had an experience that could have gone an entirely different direction if I had not been expecting only good and relying on inspiration instead of doubts and fears.” Yes, indeed, “… the anchor of hope must be cast beyond the veil of matter …” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, pp. 40–41). The last line of Eddy’s poem “Hope” sums it up: “No place for earth’s idols, but hope thou, and love” (p. 45).
