Scorpions evicted with prayer

Some years ago, my husband and I moved into a condo we had recently purchased. It was at the end of the street next to a botanical garden, which had some trails and lots of open space.

While we were moving in and putting things away, I never saw any kind of bug or spider. A few years later, I began to see scorpions here and there—in our garage, in our patio and yard. At first I thought there were just a few, so as we found them, we destroyed them, not wanting them to come into the house.

One day I opened our patio door and noticed a scorpion in the track of the door. I was terrified, and I destroyed it as we had the others. Then my daughter was over one day and started to pour a drink into a cup and saw a scorpion in the cup. Naturally, she got rid of that creature also.

I began to see them everywhere. They were all sizes, as if we had a whole family living in the house somewhere. They were on the ceiling in our bedroom, which made me so afraid they would fall on us while we slept and sting us. I never walked anywhere in the house or yard without looking down because I was afraid I might step on one.

One day I was baby-sitting our grandson. He was on the floor beside me when I noticed a scorpion close to him. Immense fear swept over me. I picked the baby up and laid him on the couch. Then I got something to pick up the scorpion and put it outside.

That was the last straw, you might say. I couldn’t deal with this anymore. In the next couple of days I called several different agencies to see if there was something they could do, like a spray, pellets, or something.

They all replied no, not for scorpions. I had been praying all the time to God, asking what I could do. I was so afraid.

Then I remembered hearing a testimony some time before about a skunk that had gotten into someone’s basement. The people had tried everything to get it out without making it spray, but nothing had worked.

Through their prayers a thought along these lines, came to them: “You have your habitat and we have ours. You don’t want anything in ours, and we don’t want anything in yours. We are all in our right place.” The skunk found its way out of the basement without any trouble.

I prayed with that idea constantly. I felt convinced that there was just one Mind governing all creation harmoniously, but I still continued to see the scorpions.

One day I opened the slider to the patio and there was a huge one sitting in the track under the door. I reached out to God with all my heart and soul and said, “Oh dear God, take away my fear.”

I felt this wonderful peace go through me, and all fear was gone. I didn’t need to do anything to that scorpion. I closed the door, and the next time I opened it, the scorpion was gone.

I knew God had answered my prayer. I was so grateful to feel and see the power and presence of God right there with me and governing all of His creation, all of us in our right place. We lived there for several more years and never saw another scorpion.

I am so thankful for all the avenues that Mary Baker Eddy provided for the Church and the spiritual growth of its members. The Christian Science magazines are wonderful, always supplying the needs of mankind by printing the proofs of answered prayer. These proofs of God’s power, goodness, and ever-present Love are here for all. What a blessing to have this support system.
