Broken arm healed quickly

When my son was five years old, he was playing with our Labrador puppy and the dog knocked him into the brick hearth of our fireplace. His arm took the impact and appeared to be broken; the area from his wrist to his elbow was bent at a right angle instead of straight.

I had grown up in Christian Science, and prayer had always been my immediate response to a need for healing of any sort. At about the same age as my son, I had broken my arm and was healed through prayer, so I knew we could rely on Christian Science for my son’s healing, too. But my husband is not a Christian Scientist and was very fearful, so we decided to take our son to the emergency room.

On the drive to the hospital, I prayed with my son to know that he could not be separated from the love of God. We said “the scientific statement of being” from page 468 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It begins, “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter.” I reasoned that if matter has no substance, an arm could not be hurt any more than a brick could be.
