Not afraid of bullies

My name is Ange, and I am eight years old.

One day I was with a friend and we were walking down the street. We were talking and we were having a good time. A ten-year-old boy, who attends the same school as I do, came up to us. He had something in his pockets that was making noise. And he shook it to frighten us. He wore boots, and he was also making some noise with his boots. And he was making faces at us to scare us. Then he pushed me and he pushed my friend. We were both scared, but he just thought it was funny.

This boy had pushed other children and had already been punished. He had received a
warning from the school that he had to have signed by his parents.

When he pushed us, I did not push back. I’m not used to pushing others, because I want them to stay friends with me.

I prayed. I closed my eyes and I talked to God. I always talk to God when things are serious.

The Sunday before this happened, we had talked about the Ten Commandments in Sunday School. So then I thought about the First Commandment that says, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). This means to me: “Think of God and only of God, who is good!”

I was sure that God would help me because God can do everything. God protects us because God is Love. God had protected me in the past when I had prayed, so I thought He would protect me that day, too.

After I prayed, the boy told us, “I owe you an apology.” I told him, “OK!” Then I was no longer afraid, and I was no longer angry and my friend wasn’t, either.

Since that time, he has not bothered us anymore. I have not seen him pushing other kids, either.

I learned that God knows everything, and when asked something right, He can do it.
When I prayed, I think I also helped my friend. I was happy to have been able to help him through prayer. I know God did not create children to push each other.

I’m happy to go to Sunday School because we talk about God. And what I learn makes me feel good, because God is Love.
