THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

RELEASE FROM TIME AND PLACE

Last April I walked along Long Bay Beach, during a visit to Auckland, New Zealand. I welcomed the unity and fellowship I saw everyone and everything around me expressing naturally. The evening was still, the breeze gently rolling the surf in.

Looking up from peaceful contemplation among the sand dunes, I saw this rainbow arcing down into the bay—and for a moment a young person was cradled in its reflected light. I felt the divine coincidence of beauty and harmony. Calmly, I reached for my camera and snapped the shutter.

Studying this image later, I was amazed at the way the light of the rainbow naturally, gracefully, encircled the young person, whether or not he or she knew it. And I felt so assured that God's "exceeding grace"—like this light—always enfolds everyone, bringing "release from things of time and place" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 170). css
