THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

RAIN OR SHINE

I have always loved the story of the little girl who announced despite pouring rain, "This is just a different kind of beautiful day!"

That came to mind on a camera club field trip to Quincy Market in Boston one very wet spring morning. I was the only one who showed up, but camera in hand, and with that little girl in mind, I was wide open to picturesque beauty.

One section of the market had a refrigerator case full of flowers. The condensation on the glass pane blurred the bouquets and produced this impressionist shot. I call it my Monet #1. When I look at it, I'm always reminded that we are surrounded by beauty. No matter what the circumstances, rain or shine, we can see and be inspired by the beauty that's all around us. We just have to open our eyes—or click the camera shutter.
