GRATEFUL FOR NUMEROUS HEALINGS
The decision on how to write this testimony was difficult, because I've had so many healings I could share. I didn't know which one to write about.
I'll start with my first healing. When I was ten years old, I went to a Christian Science Sunday School for the first time, with a friend. I'd been to different Sunday Schools and had learned to love God from my wonderful grandma, but I'd never considered joining a church. However, when I walked into that Christian Science Sunday School and saw "God is Love" in lettering on the wall, I felt at home. But then my family moved to California during Word War II, and we lived far from a church.
In my late teens, I began to have vertigo spells that lasted for hours at a time. My parents took me to a doctor, and I even had an operation that was supposed to help. Still, the spells continued off and on for nine years, and at one point, they were almost continuous. The kind doctor tried many cures, but to no avail. Soon I became addicted to the medicine he'd prescribed, watching the clock to see when I could take the next pill. With this discovery, I stopped taking the medicine since it wasn't helping me anyway.
My early days in that Christian Science Sunday School had remained memorable to me. And so, not specifically seeking healing but just some comfort and peace of mind, I decided to go to a nearby Christian Science church. During that service, I felt there was nothing standing in between God and me—no symbols, ceremonies, or opinions, just God's Word, "with signs following" (Mark 16:20). I liked that. After the service, I felt as if I'd walked with Jesus, because he taught all of us how to emulate his healing works.
Within a week after I began attending those Christian Science services, the vertigo spells stopped for good. I went to church on a regular basis after that, and realized later that I'd been healed of yearly sore throats and of a weak wrist. This further spiritual growth prompted me to study Christian Science and enroll my children in a Christian Science Sunday School.
Because of the healings that took place in our family, my husband became interested in Christian Science and read Science and Health. He became a Christian Scientist, and for about 60 years three generations in our family have relied on prayer for all our needs.
Recalling this milestone in my life has given me confidence to trust God consistently with all problems. Some healings have been instant, and other have required much more perseverance in prayer.
More recently, I had an uncomfortable feminine infection. After I prayed about this with a Christian Science practitioner, the symptoms went away in a few days. But weeks later, I woke up one Sunday morning with the familiar signs of the problem.
On the way to church, I started praying. I realized that infection couldn't recur because it didn't have any solid basis in my life. It was just a lie about my identity as a child of God. God was my Parent, and just as I would never cause my children suffering or pain, He wouldn't cause His children to suffer, either. God was the only Cause—divine Love. Since He loved me always, I was already well. With that realization, the discomfort stopped—instantly—and that condition has never returned.
A healing of a lump in my groin took longer. It appeared on and off for over a decade, causing pain. All along, I was praying with the spiritual fact that nothing could be out of place in God's kingdom. And that meant that my body reflected normalcy and proper movement. I just knew any suggestion that I was bound to suffer couldn't last. Even though at times the symptoms were very aggressive, I continued in my prayers and didn't give up. When fear was overcome, I found I was healed. It's been ten years now, and I've remained completely free of this condition.
With each healing I've mentioned here, there's been great growth in grace, peace, and spiritual understanding. What a blessing to a family! Can you imagine how grateful I am to have discovered the healing gift of Christian Science?
