A great family feeling
HI, MY NAME IS PHILIPP.
I live in Hamburg, Germany. I'm 13, and I'm in the seventh grade. I love to play soccer. I also like music and play the flute and the piano.
I've been going to the Christian Science Sunday School since I was little. I like that you learn in Christian Science about how God cares for you and heals you. Passages from the Bible and from Science and Health often help me in school, or with friends, or with any situation.
For example, I walked home from a friend's house one night. He lives about half a mile away. It had already gotten very dark, and I was afraid that something terrible might happen. Then I remembered Psalm 91, where it says: "He [God] has commanded his angels to guard you on all your paths, to carry you in their hands so you won'tdash your foot against a stone" (91:11, 12, Luther Bible). Right away, as I realized that God was with me, my fear disappeared.
Another time, I was climbing on a door frame in our apartment by pushing my arms and feet against the sides of the frame. When I got to the top, I slipped and fell. I landed on the back of my head. My dad quickly came to help me, and together we prayed with Hymn No. 412 from the Christian Science Hymnal. It talks about how the Christ comes to bless us on "... wings of healing; / To banish pain, and wipe all tears away. ..." The pain in my head soon stopped, and I was able to join the family for some fun activities.
Because of these and other healings that I've had through prayer, I wanted to join The Mother Church and support it. Before I filled out the application form to become a member, my Sunday School teacher and I discussed things in the Church Manual by Mary Baker Eddy. For example, I learned about the Daily Prayer that church members pray, and how they are to watch and pray to be free of judging and condemning other people (see pp. 40–41). I was accepted as a member in June 2005, when I was still 12. It's a great feeling to be part of a group of people who believe in the power of God the same way I do. It's like a big family.
