Prayer proves immediately reliable

As the daughter of a pastor, I grew up loving the Bible. Above all, it taught me about my relationship to God—that His love for me was something I could know tangibly, and that I could talk with Him as I would with a friend. The Bible was the first reference book that showed me how to live my life—in a meaningful way that would bless not only me and my family, but also my neighbor.

When I encountered Science and Health, my love for the Bible took a giant leap forward. The light that Science and Health shed on the Scriptures gave me profound new insights into the reality of God in my life. I began to see how the healings recorded in the Bible took place, and I started having my own healings through prayer.

One particular healing was a landmark. I woke up that morning with the words of a hymn in my head. They speak of how tender God's love is for us, His children, and that nothing—neither sin, sickness, nor even death—can ever wrench us away from this perpetual love (see Christian Science Hymnal, No. 232). I felt very close to God in those early waking moments of the day—it was a holy feeling not easily put into words.
