Trust in God brings resources
Our house needed some new windows. My husband and I had saved up, and had what I thought was enough money to have them installed. The company we called came out to the house, gave us a demonstration, and told us the cost per window.
I was shocked. We had nowhere near enough to replace all of the windows. But my husband and I talked and decided we really needed to replace the living room and porch windows. There was no way around it. So we went ahead and made the arrangements with the company representative, and applied for a loan with them. I didn't know how we were going to be able to make the monthly payments. But it did seem the right thing to do. As the man left, I remember turning to God and thinking, "It's up to You, God. This seems necessary, but I don't know how we're going to pay for this."
The next day I prayed off and on. I was totally putting my trust in God. I don't remember just what I thought, but I wanted things to work out, and Science and Health says that "... no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds" (p. 1).
When I got home from work, I got a phone call from a woman I knew who lived in our town. She called, apologized for bothering me, and asked if I could do some food shopping for her. She had a real need for this help. I said I'd be happy to. She said she was looking for someone to shop for her every week. We talked, and I discovered that she'd been praying about this and had been feeling she should call me—but she'd resisted because she felt I was too busy. I told her I'd been praying, too. It was wonderful to see how God was taking care of both our needs.
I did the shopping for her, and what she paid me covered the loan for the windows. Then, about a year or so later, just as I needed to take on some other obligations, my husband and I were able to sell some land that we'd had on the market for over three years, and pay off the loan for the windows. Before I could even speak to the woman, she called me to say she had a friend who would like to do her shopping. Everything worked out so well for each of us. Divine Love had met both our needs.
