Prayer saves the day

Several years ago, I was working part time in a library and taking night classes. On one day when I had a final exam for one of my classes, I asked to be scheduled to work in the morning so that I would have time for a final review of the material before my exam. The library generally gave me what I asked for when it came to scheduling, and I didn't look at the weekly schedule very closely. So I arrived at work at 9:00 a.m., only to find that I wasn't scheduled until 1:00 p.m. I agreed to return in the afternoon.

When I got home, I was wondering how to get everything done. I also needed to go to the financial aid office at the university, which was only open until 5:00 p.m. I decided to go there first and get my business done. I spent the time I was driving there praying to see that God was in charge and was ordering my day, and that I would be able to accomplish everything that I needed to with His help.

Driving on the freeway I heard a loud bang, and the glass in the window of the door next to me fell into my car. (I found out later that sometimes with older cars, the glass will implode for no apparent reason.) Though I was somewhat shaken up, I was not hurt and continued on my way to school.

I went to the financial aid office and took care of my business there. Then, while looking for a phone to use, I ran into my academic advisor. I told him what had happened and that I did not know if I would be able to get the window replaced that day because I had to go to work and then take a final exam.

He was concerned that I might be so affected by what had happened that I would not do well on the exam. I assured him that I was not concerned about that. And I insisted to myself that my intelligence, which comes from God, could not be affected by any disruption.

I returned home and called my insurance company to see about having the glass replaced. The glass company they referred me to said I could come in that afternoon. When I told the people at the library what had happened, they were grateful that I was not hurt and said it was not a problem for me not to work that day.

I decided to take my books with me to the glass company, since it was going to take a long time to fix the window, and I studied there. As it got rather late in the afternoon, and the work was still not finished, I asked how much longer it would be. They said the window was in, but they could not make it go up. It was not clear how much longer it would take to finish.

I went back to the waiting room to pray. I knew it was a fact that everything in God's creation fits together perfectly and operates smoothly. Shortly, I found out the work had been finished. As I was taking care of the paperwork, they apologized for the length of time it had taken and offered me a $25 reduction in my deductible. To me this was an additional indication of God's care.

I had time to go home and get dinner before the exam. As I was driving to the university, it was pouring rain, and I was grateful that I'd been able to have the window replaced in time.

I got an A on the final as well as for the class. I thank God for this and for other proofs of His care for me.
