Life never ends

Two years ago I received a phone call from my brother's friend in Arizona, telling me that my brother was seriously ill. I flew out to be with him. He was happy to have me read to him from the Bible. I also prayed to know that only God was present, and that no one could be out of God's care, no matter what.

God was my perfect help in overcoming grief.

Six days after I got there, my brother passed on.

I was strengthened by the understanding that Life is God and is eternal. This helped me see that my brother was still aware of God's goodness and peace. I was especially comforted by this prayer to God from a hymn by Mary Baker Eddy: "Thou Love that guards the nestling's faltering flight! / Keep Thou my child on upward wing tonight" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 207). God alone was my perfect help in overcoming my grief at my brother's passing.

Another time, complete trust in the power of God brought healing. I had a severe pain in my jaw, two nights in a row. Sleep was impossible. I couldn't find any comfortable position for my head.

I talked with a Christian Science practitioner, who helped me realize that, because I was made to reflect God, I could not be victimized by pain. I found a lot of comfort in listening to tapes of hymns. The tapes helped me rest and feel more aware of God with me. The third night I slept peacefully. The pain was gone, and it has not returned. This was over a year ago.

With joy and gratitude, I am learning more about God as Spirit.
