Flu quickly healed

During a recent winter, I was suddenly quite ill with fever, weakness, and an overall feeling of fear. I had heard that the flu was particularly virulent that year and that hospital emergency rooms in our area were filled to capacity. Instead of getting a flu shot every year, however, I prefer to rely on the healing power of God's love and care.

I went to bed that afternoon feeling weak and feverish, and I began to read Science and Health. I prayed to see God's love for us always and to realize that I am not merely flesh and blood but the spiritual idea of God, perfectly healthy. And I prayed to remove all thoughts of illness or weakness from my mind.

I was completely free by that evening.

I had some important household tasks to take care of for my family that evening, that couldn't wait, but I didn't think I could get out of bed and walk up and down the stairs, or even stand. Immediately I turned to God and prayed earnestly for His help. I knew I could rely on Him as certainly as if He were there holding my arm. Afterward I went downstairs, took care of the tasks, and returned to bed. Psalms such as these came to thought: "The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower" (18:2).

The next day I was much better and could go about my regular duties as usual. But there was more to do. Occasionally, I would feel weak and feverish, but I would immediately counter with spiritual truths such as this one: "Hold perpetually this thought,—that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon its divine Principle, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being" (Science and Health, p. 496).

I was completely free by that evening. There were no further difficulties.

I have been a member of The Mother Church for over three years now, and I rely more and more on God's healing love. I have an unshakable conviction that He will care for us always, keeping us high above "life's raging sea." I used to think I couldn't rely on the Bible for practical help when I needed it—that it was too sacred a book to be read whenever you wanted to. But now I use the Bible and Science and Health whenever a vexing problem comes along. This always strengthens and supports me. It provides answers, no matter how difficult life's challenges may seem.
