Prayer restores mobility and control

My wife was raised as a Christian Scientist, and I have been attending church with her since just before we were married. I enjoyed being with her because life was more spiritually oriented. I previously attended other churches, but the messages I heard did not arouse my spiritual connection the way Christian Science has.

After many years of watching our children progress with what they learned in Sunday School and from my wife, I decided to study Christian Science more deeply.

Since that time I have had some instantaneous healings, such as having no effect from a bee sting and walking normally after twisting an ankle. The one I remember most vividly was as follows: I was preparing to go to bed one night after a party at home. I suddenly started falling backward. I completely lost control of my arms and legs, and I was not able to speak. I slid off the bed onto the floor.

My wife heard me and immediately came and declared that we were not going to accept this condition. This alerted me to the fact that God is in control wherever I am, and that I myself can do nothing. All I need to do is reflect the absolute perfection available to all of God's creation. Within three seconds I had recovered all control of movement and speech and was able to climb into bed. I lay in bed completely relaxed with my hands resting on my chest. My wife read several hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, and I went to sleep. I woke after seven hours of restful sleep, during which time I had not moved at all. I usually sleep like a top and spin all night.

I felt like a new person. We had breakfast, then went out and shoveled eighteen inches of snow off the garage roof. This has been a permanent healing since it took place five years ago. I have had other healings since, and I'm learning the truth of this statement: "The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness" (Science and Health, p. 151).
