101 WIGGLES

Cricket was a Dalmatian, a white puppy with black spots, filled with wiggles right down to her tail. She and Alexander loved to play tug of war with one of Daddy's old slippers. Each school day, Cricket waited as patiently as any puppy can for Alexander to jump off the bus from kindergarten. Then Cricket would run out to meet him.

One winter day Cricket was very quiet, though. When she didn't want to play tug of war, Alexander thought she just needed to rest. But the next morning she was shivering and didn't want to eat anything. She stayed curled up in her bed and barely gave her tail two wags when Alexander patted her goodbye on his way to school.

After Alexander left, Mommy wrapped Cricket in a blanket and started to pray. It was natural for their family to pray whenever anyone in the family, including the pets, wasn't feeling well. And they had had many healings by turning to God. But that morning Mommy began to think about how much work she had to do, and about how little she knew about taking care of a shivering puppy. So she decided to call a veterinarian. When the vet heard how Cricket was acting, he was concerned and wanted to see her right after lunch.

After she hung up, Mommy wondered if she had done the right thing. But she was soon busy with her chores and didn't think about Cricket again until she heard the school bus at noontime. She glanced at Cricket, still curled up in her bed, and went out to meet Alexander.

Right away Alexander asked, "How's Cricket?"

"Still not feeling well," Mommy answered. Then she explained that she planned to take Cricket to the vet.

But Alexander very firmly said, "Oh, no you don't!"

Mommy knew that Alexander wasn't talking back to her. That big "No" was really a prayer. Alexander knew that God loves and cares for all of His ideas, including puppies. God doesn't make sickness, so it can't be real. As one of God's good ideas, Cricket could express only health and energy. They didn't need to take Cricket to the vet for her to be God's healthy idea. She was that way right then!

Alexander had been healed by God many times before, and he knew that God would heal Cricket, too. Sure enough, when Alexander went running inside, guess who came bounding over to him? A bright-eyed Cricket. She was healed, ready to play, and filled with 101 wiggles!
