Prayer heals stomach trouble

One Monday recently, I woke with stomach pains and nausea. I felt weak and shaky, but began to pray, affirming that God's man is spiritual, not material. I knew that sickness is not sent from God, and therefore I need not fear it. Many Bible verses came to thought, reassuring and strengthening me, but on Tuesday morning I still felt weak.

The visit went well, and I came away feeling rested, joyous, and grateful.

I had a luncheon engagement that day and was able to go, leaning all the time on the beautiful truths that I had learned from my years of study. Returning home, I thought I would rest awhile. But then I remembered an important committee meeting at my church that I had promised to attend. In spite of the weakness, I resolved to go. At first, it seemed that all five members of the committee were thinking in different directions. But after some praying by all concerned, we found a solution, and much good was accomplished. I left the meeting feeling more free of the stomach difficulty. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy explains, "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself" (p. 385). I had certainly seen this to be true, and experienced a lovely healing, as well.

The following day I undertook an hour-and-a-half drive to visit a relative in a nursing home. I spent the drive doing some good metaphysical thinking. The visit went well, and I came away feeling rested, joyous, and grateful.

My heart overflows with gratitude for all the good that has come into my life through Christian Science: for a deeper understanding of our Father-Mother God, for Christ Jesus, and for Mary Baker Eddy and her work of bringing this Science to the world.
