Safety in Central Park; injury and allergy healed
One evening a friend and I decided to leave a play being given in Central Park in New York City early. Because of the distance between the theater area and the street, we had quite a distance to walk. As we were going along the path, a young man came out of the wooded area and headed toward us. It was clear his intentions were not good.
As he drew nearer to us, my friend commented that we should not react to evil, but respond to Truth-God. And with that statement, my fear subsided and was replaced by a spiritual sense of love for this individual. My friend and I continued our brisk pace while we had a very friendly conversation with the young man. As we approached the park exit, I reached into my handbag and gave him a copy of the Sentinel and told him that this magazine would be very helpful to him. He gratefully received it, and then leaned over and gave me a kiss on the check. His face had changed totally, and he looked at peace and happy.
During a visit with a relative one summer, I woke one morning with one of my eyes very red and swollen. I prayed, and though the situation did not change immediately, the intuition came to fill my thought with gratitude, appreciation, and love for my hostess. Shortly after this, the two of us began chatting outside her cottage, and I became aware of what a beautiful transparency of divine Love she was. Almost immediately, the difficulty with my eye vanished.
I remember feeling God's love, enabling
While attending a piano concert at a friend's home one afternoon, I became very fearful because there were cats in the home, and I was allergic to cats. I reached out to God for help, as the room was hushed prior to the concert. Sneezing and cough ing would not be appreciated, nor would they indicate my gratitude for having been invited to this event! After calming my thought with the affirmation of God's everpresence, I looked over to my right, and standing there was the daughter of the hostess, tenderly holding one of the cats. The love expressed be tween the two of them was so sweet and pure that I glimpsed an even deeper sense of our Father's loving care. With this realization the allergic reaction began to recede, and I was free to enjoy the concert. I now enjoy the presence of cats.
Several years ago while my husband and I were moving a bed from one part of the room to another, I lost my grip and the full weight of one of the legs fell on my foot. We were planning to fly back to the United States the next day, and the discomfort and apparent injury were alarming. I remember feeling the presence of God's love supporting me enabling me to walk normally. Each time the pain returned, it was silenced by my affirming the truth of my perfect relation to God. This citation from Science and Health with key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was helpful to me: "Mind is the master of the corporeal senses, and can conquer sickness, sin, and death. Exercise this God-given authority. Take possession of your body, and govern its feeling and action. Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good. God has made man capable of this, and nothing can vitiate the ability and power divinely bestowed on man" (p.393).
Another source of strength was that my motive to return home as scheduled was a pure one, as I did not wish to inconvenience anyone. I was able to take the return flight the following morning, for which I was so grateful. The complete healing did require more prayer, but I was always able to do whatever was necessary. I am so grateful for the manner of God's love for all of us-it is unfailingly tender and kind.
