How I prayed on the picket line

The union I'm a member of went on strike against the company we serve. The strike lasted seven weeks at the plant where I work.

As a union member, I was greatly concerned with the thought of walking off my job to go on strike. A few days before the strike, I prayed regarding this situation. I wanted to understand more about God as the divine Principle, governing all. I was struggling with the feeling that it was unprincipled to walk off a job that I had a responsibility to perform.

This spiritual quest led me to discuss the impending strike with my general supervisor. I explained that I was unhappy with the situation, and that I did not know whether, when the time came, I could actually leave my desk and walk out. He responded that I would not have a choice; that if the union were to call a strike, I would not be allowed to stay in the factory. He also let me know, very lovingly, that if we were to strike, there would be no hard feelings—that I would be doing what I had to do as would he.
