How big is God's love?

Have you ever seen a mother bird sitting in her nest? Maybe when she left the nest you discovered some tiny eggs. You might have been amazed at how long the mother sat so still and quiet and patient, keeping each little egg carefully tucked under her warm feathers. Whatever the weather's like, that mother bird takes special care to see that her eggs are safe and warm.

Then one day those tiny eggs hatch, and out come the new baby birds. Of course, the mother doesn't abandon them at that point, but stays to feed them and keeps right on sheltering them under her wings. Can you imagine what it would feel like to be under such big wings? So completely covered, so safe and snug and warm. It would be hard to feel afraid with such big wings totally embracing you!

Well, even though you're not a baby bird, you can still feel the same kind of love, care, and protection that a baby bird feels under its mother's strong, sheltering wings. The Bible talks about the strong wings of God's love, too. You might already know the beautiful ninety-first Psalm. It says: "He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust. ... Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling" (verses 4, 9, and 10). So the Bible shows us God's love, and we can understand and feel that warm, protecting love no matter where we are. Under Love's care, there can be no sadness, hurt, sickness, fear, or loneliness.

God is always there to hold, feed, and protect us, too. We stay under the wings of Love by following God everywhere He leads, by staying close to good, and by listening to and obeying the good ideas from God, divine Mind. Then we can't help but feel God's love no matter where we are, what we're doing, or who we're with.

I felt safe, right there in the middle of that storm.

God's love for us is so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o big! He loves us so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o much. We are His dear, precious children. Father-Mother, Love, holds each of us so close that nothing can ever get between us and His love. And God never stops loving us. God's love was there for me one day when I was out walking in the woods. A very bad storm came up quite suddenly, and the sky turned all dark and greenish. The wind was very scary. I was too far away from home to run there for shelter, so I just lay down in a ditch while the storm screamed away.

I remembered that God was right there and that He loved me. I remembered that God has all the power. That meant that the storm had no power. I became calm and unafraid, and even felt safe, right there in the middle of that storm. The trees felt like friends, and I was no longer afraid that they could fall down and hurt me.

Soon the wind stopped and the storm was over. But not God's love! That love stayed right with me as I walked home. And it's still with me now, many years later and through many other kinds of storms. God's love has never once left me. It can never once leave you. Love cares for us all, much like a mother bird broods over her chicks.
