When my youngest daughter was a sophomore in high school,...

When my youngest daughter was a sophomore in high school, her science class took a field trip to a lake one Friday. Their project was to plane small trees in the surrounding wooded area. The day following the trip she was covered from head to toe with a rash from poison ivy. She chose to treat this through Christian Science because she had witnessed so many healings as she was growing up. A Christian Science practitioner was contacted for treatment, and my daughter discussed with her what is true about the real man. The practitioner reminded my daughter that she is "the image and likeness of the patient, tender, and true, the One 'altogether lovely;'"—God (see Science and Health, p. 3).

As a parent I had to overcome my own fear and a false sense of responsibility. I needed to recognize that God was her true Father-Mother and that she was forever enfolded in His presence—so nothing could ever touch her but good. The Bible passage "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Prov. 3:5, 6) was my constant companion.

She was back in school, and not a single scar was left on her body.

There was complete healing. She was back in school on the following Thursday, and not a single scar was left on her body as some had said might happen. We all rejoiced.

Another proof of God's care involved my oldest daughter when she was a freshman in high school. A severe storm struck late one night, shattering glass from a large window onto my daughter's bed. When I got to her room, however, she was not there. She had taken refuge in the only closet that was protected from the flying glass. There was not a scratch on her. She later told me that she had been directed to get up and go to the closet for safety. This was a wonderful illustration to us of the Bible passage in First Kings "The Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake: and after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice" (19:11, 12).

There was more to this previous healing, though. I had been praying all that day and having treatment from a practitioner in relation to a contagious disease that was said to be present in the high school. The school nurse called the next day and said the case was not contagious, as had been thought at first, and my daughter was free to attend school as usual.

For these and all the many other healings my family has received through the application of Christian Science, I am so very thankful. I must also add my heartfelt gratitude to the practitioners who so lovingly helped us in these times of need.
