Since my last published testimony in 1968 I have been healed many times through Christianly scientific prayer. One healing I would like to relate is an experience covering a period of thirty years. In my high-school years one of my classmates was whisked off to hospital for removal of his appendix, and the graphic details of his operation made a great impression on my youthful thought. It was not long before I began to have pains consistent with appendicitis. While these soon disappeared as a result of my parents' prayers, at a medical check some years later (for superannuation purposes) an appendix problem was apparently diagnosed and noted on my record.

The physical difficulty soon abated, and I was able to return to work after three days.

Some years later (about twenty years ago, now) I experienced severe internal pains and had to be taken home from my office. The pain was so severe that I could not pray clearly for myself, and a Christian Science practitioner was called for prayerful treatment. The intense pain soon subsided, but I was still very uncomfortable. The following morning the intense pain returned, and I had several telephone conversations with the practitioner. We prayed together to destroy any claim of a powerful evil and to understand better that there is nothing outside God's goodness that could impinge on my God-given freedom as a child of God. The physical difficulty soon abated, and I was able to return to work after three days. I have had no sign of appendix pains since then.

Recently I suffered from very aggressive symptoms of a cold. I prayed, claiming my perfection as an idea of God and denying the existence of any evil power that could cause suffering, but the symptoms persisted. A short sentence in an article in The Christian Science Journal alerted me to the fact that the Christ, Truth, is not aware of any human or mortal past. The crucifixion and resurrection, which give Jesus' followers proof of spiritual reality and the unreality of mortal existence, have no history to Christ. I realised I needed to stop wallowing in the belief in a power and history in error or disease and let my thought rise to the understanding of my real, spiritual nature. On retiring for the night, I continued to contemplate this spiritual unfoldment, and in the morning all the aggressive symptoms were gone. Every trace of the cold soon disappeared.
