It is high time this testimony was written
It is high time this testimony was written. I have had so many proofs of God's omnipotence and omnipresence during my life, I am delighted to share some of these experiences.
It began when my mother had been unable to have any children. She said in her prayers that if she were to have a child, she would hope that he would live a life in service to God. I came along! She claimed God as the true Father of man.
When I was quite young, I was healed through Christian Science of spinal meningitis and also of a severe accident following a fall from a wall. Later, when I was playing soccer at school, I badly twisted my leg. A friend had been off school for several weeks with a similar injury. I was very frightened. Christian Science Sunday School had taught me to overcome fear by knowing God's pure power as infinite Love. I sat on the sideline of the soccer pitch, glorying in the knowledge of God's omnipotence. The words of a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal came to thought: "Everlasting arms of Love / Are beneath, around, above . . ." (No. 53). I was healed within minutes and was able to finish the game.
At one point, I curtailed my schooling to begin a six-year course of training. Later, when I applied for a degree course at a university, I was told that my qualifications were not sufficient. In my prayer I recognised that God was in control, and that He never made mistakes; I was qualified, as an idea of God, to express Him—to express His unlimited intelligence. The examination board reexamined my papers and found that a mistake had been made by the examiners and that I indeed had the necessary qualifications. I was admitted to the university, and in due course passed with flying colours. I later learned that my parents were told I was admitted with some reserve because I was several months too young. God's law indeed had been in control.
A few days before my university final examination I came down with a severe throat condition. I approached a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. She pointed out that God does not leave us halfway. I remember going to sleep that night reviewing the many ways in which God had helped to bring me to that point. It was not in His nature to let me down—now, or ever! I fell peacefully asleep and woke next morning completely recovered and able to take my examinations successfully.
When I was quite young, I was healed through Christian Science of spinal meningitis.
More recently, I was on a building site with one of our granddaughters. I was carrying her when I fell on the rough ground. I twisted to save her face from hitting the stones, and my leg was injured. One leg was suddenly much shorter than the other. I had very little sleep that night, but as I prayed it was clear to me that the Christ, the active power of Love in action, was present. On the second night, I tangibly felt that power. Something moved in my leg. When I got up and showered the next morning, it was clear that my leg was completely healed.
I am most grateful to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for devoting herself to giving us this fruitful and practical Science. My life has been a joy, living and working in the service of our Father (my mother's earnest wish).
