In Miscellaneous Writings Mrs. Eddy writes, "No evidence before the material senses can close my eyes to the scientific proof that God, good, is supreme" (p. 277). That profound statement has been very helpful to me in finding healing of physical problems through reliance on God alone.
I have learned to take difficulties directly to God, rather than discuss them with others. Doing this, I have found that healings come more quickly; there is only my own thinking to deal with.
This was the case when I discovered a growth on my neck. Through prayer, putting steadfast and calm trust in God to heal me, I saw the growth simply vanish in less than two weeks. Many spiritual truths sustained me during this time. I studied especially the statement that Christian Science "changes the secretions, expels humors, dissolves tumors, relaxes rigid muscles, restores carious bones to soundness" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy, p. 162). I had considered the words change, expel, dissolve, relax, and restore, knowing that the truth also changes our thinking, expels and dissolves whatever error may be lurking, eliminates tension and fear, and restores the body to reflect health rather than sickness.
About six years ago I began gradually gaining weight. When it became apparent that there was an internal problem in addition to the excess weight that needed to be eliminated, I began to pray specifically about this daily. It grew clear to me that this condition resulted from the unhappiness, anger, and disappointment I was feeling toward a couple of individuals who had caused me much anguish. In the healing process of forgiving these people and endeavoring to see them as God's perfect children, the internal problem dissolved and my weight became stable and normal. Although this healing took about two years spiritual understanding gained.
Another time, after a few days of excruciating pain throughout my body that did not yield to my own prayers, I requested the help of a practitioner; I had become almost immobile. As a result of the practitioner's sincere prayer, the pain was eliminated almost immediately, and my ability to walk and to move freely returned within a few days.
During the fifty years that I have been a Christian Scientist, God has been my only physician, and divine Mind my only medicine.
