I am grateful that my mother began reading and studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy before I was born. During our early years, my two older sisters, a brother, and I received many blessings because of it.

When I was married, my husband, who was not a Christian Scientist, was not sure of the efficacy of Christian Science. However, after seeing a number of healings (one was a very quick healing of tonsillitis with one of our daughters), he was willing to trust it for me and our six children. Later, he attended church with me sometimes.

One day about five years ago, a heavy car door was closed on my hand accidentally, badly injuring it. The thumb appeared to be partly cut off. I immediately turned my thought to the fact that only what God knows is true. And He certainly knows nothing of pain, injury, or accident.

We returned home and I washed and wrapped my hand. I called a Christian Science practitioner for help and went about my business, trying to know only what God knows—man untouched by hurt, joyous and free as His image. The healing, complete healing, was very soon realized. This was especially meaningful to me as I was organist for our branch church and taught music at our local public school at the time. And I never missed being able to do both because Christian Science prayer was so effective.

Another proof of good was in my overcoming the use of coffee and tea. I had always depended on them, especially coffee, to "get me going in the morning." The following citation from Science and Health helped me greatly in letting go of this dependence: "We have strength in proportion to our apprehension of the truth, and our strength is not lessened by giving utterance to truth. A cup of coffee or tea is not the equal of truth, whether for the inspiration of a sermon or for the support of bodily endurance."

Thank God for our Way-shower, Christ Jesus, and for Christian Science—God's gift to mankind.
