This testimony should have been written years ago
This testimony should have been written years ago. I have had many proofs of God's healing presence. My parents began the study of Christian Science shortly before I was born. At the time of my birth, the doctors informed my parents that I would not live through the night. My parents prayed for me and I did survive, but the prediction was then made that I would be completely paralyzed. My father and my mother's sister agreed to take me home and release the hospital of all responsibility. A Christian Science practitioner was asked to pray for me, and it was not long before I was completely well and normally active.
I attended school with very few absences. After I graduated I spent six years in the United States Navy and witnessed many proofs of God's protection.
In 1970 I experienced a physical difficulty that kept me from work for days at a time. I spent many sleepless nights in fear. I would wake in the night, gasping for breath, and sit on the side of the bed, praying on the basis that God is my Life until I became calm and my breathing became natural.
I was able to do things during the day, but occasionally the feeling would come that I was going to lose consciousness. Then I would pray and try to rest. During this time I was quite nervous, and my wife would take me for long drives in the car late in the evening. When we got home I could lie down and sleep for a short while before the breathing difficulty returned.
Through the continued prayers of the practitioner and myself, I began to lose my fear of the condition. I did make progress and eventually was able to go back to work, but the healing was not yet complete.
In the course of my prayer and study, I worked quite extensively with the deep, spiritual meaning and promise of the twenty-third Psalm. I found especially helpful the spiritual sense of the psalm as given in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I realized I needed to grow spiritually and to be much more loving to my fellowman. Through all the avenues we have for learning more of this wonderful way of life, including the weekly Bible Lessons in the Christian Science Quarterly, the Christian Science periodicals, the church services and testimony meetings, I experienced a good deal of spiritual growth. And the complete healing came.
Since that physical condition was healed I have fulfilled two terms as a Reader and many other posts in church. My prayer is that I can give to the Cause of Christian Science even a small part of what it has given to me. My wife and I are truly grateful for all the good that has come to us over many years.
