I Would like to express my appreciation for a wonderful...
I Would like to express my appreciation for a wonderful opportunity our family had to prove that God is truly "a very present help in trouble" (Psalms). One morning I was in the bedroom getting ready for a meeting, and my wife and our children were in the dressing room adjoining the bedroom. While getting dressed, I heard one of my daughters shout, and I turned in time to see my wife falling to the floor. She had stopped breathing and was limp; she appeared to have passed away.
Throughout these moments, many thoughts were racing through my mind. I thought of leaving my wife's side and going for help. Instead, I consciously chose to stay with her and adamantly declare the truth of her spiritual existence, because foremost in my thought was the knowledge that God is All-in-all. I told my wife, "I love you; are perfect; you are included in God's perfect, spiritual creation." During this time I also asked our children to repeat Mary Baker Eddy's prayers for the children, which they did (see Miscellaneous Writings by Mrs. Eddy).
After a short while my wife began breathing again. At this time I called a Christian Science practitioner for additional prayerful support. The practitioner asked me to place the telephone to my wife's ear. Then the practitioner spoke to her "as one having authority" (Matthew), sharing spiritual truths of God, divine Life.
My wife regained consciousness within a short time and continued to recover. She was up and about her normal activities later that day, and our entire family attended Sunday services in our branch church the following day, where my wife fulfilled her duties as Second Reader. That week's Bible Lesson (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) was on "Life," and our family felt a much deeper understanding of the subject.
Having witnessed this tremendous example of God's omnipotence, I felt it was important to know that in Truth nothing had occurred which would alter my wife's unbroken relationship with God. I recognized that in reality my wife always has been and always will be a perfect expression of God. The events that took place were in actuality a demonstration of God's law of eternal Life, and this law is applicable for healing sin or sickness as well as for overcoming the belief of death.
I am humbled and eternally grateful that I was able to witness this wonderful proof of our dear Father's omnipotence and error's nothingness. I am sincerely grateful to know that we, as His spiritual children, are reflections of His perfection.
Words cannot begin to express my gratitude to God for Christ Jesus the Way-shower, for bringing Christianity to the world; and for Mrs. Eddy, for her revelation of the Comforter, divine Science.

I am deeply grateful for my husband. It gave all of us a greater understanding of the spiritual meaning of Life and showed us that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy).
Most of that day was spent in quiet prayer, as there were some physical symptoms to be met and overcome. Apparently, when I fell, I hit my head on the edge of the sink and got quite a cut on my forehead. I prayed, acknowledging that I had never fallen from God's care and therefore could have no ill effects. (Over the next few weeks the cut gradually faded out of sight, and a slight numbness on my head also disappeared.) I was most grateful to be in my position as Reader the next morning, proof of God's protective care.
I had to overcome the fear that what had happened would happen again, perhaps when I was at home by myself. I was helped by the thought that divine Mind is the only cause and therefore good is the only effect. Consequently, what had never happened in Mind could never repeat itself.
I am most grateful that I was raised in Christian Science and that now our children are learning in a Christian Science Sunday School the basic spiritual truths that help them in any situation—at school, with their friends, or wherever they may be. I cannot express enough gratitude for our dedicated Christian Science practitioners and teachers.
