During one of the most inspiring experiences of my life, there...

During one of the most inspiring experiences of my life, there was the opportunity to draw upon and prove the spiritual truths that have brought me great joy on many occasions through the years.

In May 1985 I traveled with a group on a tour through the Holy Land. On our final exploration I had been taking pictures and holding my mini-cassette recorder near the guide as usual, when I noticed a strange feeling in my right arm. The group moved on and were unaware that my equipment had fallen to the ground. Try as I might, my right hand could not grasp anything.

Immediately what came to me was to "be instant in season" and deny vigorously that any form of evil could spoil or touch my real being. Eventually I collected the fallen objects with my left hand, placed them in my bag, and caught up with the group.

At dinner, using my eating utensils was most difficult, but no one seemed to notice. I asked my roommate, who is a Christian Scientist, to pray for me, which she did most lovingly. In the stateroom I prayed and studied Science earnestly, concentrating mainly on pages 390 to 394 in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, which filled me with confidence. On page 390 we read: "Suffer no claim of sin or of sickness to grow upon the thought. Dismiss it with an abiding conviction that it is illegitimate, because you know that God is no more the author of sickness than He is of sin."

By the next morning I noticed improvement. This improvement continued until, by the time we flew home, I could rejoice in my healing. I'd seen that God is omnipresent and felt that I loved the Lord with all my heart and soul. The physical difficulty has not recurred.

I am grateful, too for a turnaround in what could have been a real estate disaster. I had used my property as collateral for a business loan for a family member at a time when interest rates were at their highest. All went well for a period, but operating costs kept increasing until payments became so difficult that I received foreclosure notices and the situation became a nightmare.

I recalled previous years when needs had been met as they had arisen. And I knew that as a result of consecrated prayer this need would be met too. Psalm 71 says (verse 1), "In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion." And in Science and Health we read (p. 494): "It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good." I did not know how the situation would be resolved, but I was confident the answer would come.

Soon a young man came to my door one day and asked me if I would sell my property. We reached an agreement, the debts were cleared, and a profit was realized. How grateful I am for Christian Science!
