As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have had many healings

As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have had many healings.

At one time during high school I was involved in an automobile accident. That morning (Saturday) I had risen early to do an errand. During the night it had been snowing and sleeting, and the road to campus was slippery in spots. As I crested a hill, I hit a patch of ice that sent the car spinning. The car slid off the road and hit a telephone pole head-on. Since this car was not equipped with seat belts, I was thrown against the steering wheel and then the windshield.

I got out of the car to survey the damage. I was bleeding profusely from a gash on my head, and my arms and legs were badly bruised. Immediately I began to pray for myself. Very soon I was driven home by my soccer coach, who happened to be passing by. When I arrived home, I called the police. Then my mother and I drove to my car where we met the police. They suggested that I be taken to a hospital. But I declined, knowing that, as God's child, I was all right. I was calm and felt confident in placing my reliance on God's healing power, and I continued praying for myself. My mother and I then drove in her car to see a Christian Science nurse, who cleaned and bandaged the wound.

When we returned home I sat down with my copy of the Bible and of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy and read the Bible Lesson for that week (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly). As I prayed I affirmed that in my true nature I could not be subject to accidents. I knew that my life was governed by the harmony of divine Principle. There was never any fear, and the healing was so complete that I went to soccer practice on Monday afternoon. At that time no effects of the accident remained except a scab on the cut, and that was gone in a couple of days.

Since then I have received many other blessings—from the healing of sports injuries in college to the meeting of my needs for employment and housing after school. Truly, "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1). I am indeed grateful for the spiritual truths of being that Mrs. Eddy has shared with all of us through the teachings of Christian Science. Every day I am learning more of God and of man's relationship to Him.
