My last testimony, published nearly forty years...
My last testimony, published nearly forty years ago in the Sentinel, briefly mentioned my healing of a severe breakdown. I now wish to record more thoroughly my deep gratitude to God for the completeness and permanency of the healing.
At that difficult time my family, who were not Christian Scientists, had me hospitalized while the education authority, which had employed me, arranged my early retirement with pension. After my release from the hospital, the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner healed all the difficulties so effectively that within two weeks my request to return to normal teaching duties was granted, and just one year later a series of promotions began.
I joyfully testify that through the spiritual inspiration and refreshment provided daily in our precious Bible Lessons (outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly), I was able to carry out successfully varied and often challenging assignments. These included the responsibility of serving as headmistress in several schools. At the same time church, home, and family commitments were cared for, while good health was always maintained. When I reached retirement age after twelve years as a college lecturer, I was asked to continue for a further period and happily did so.
An especially rewarding experience, one which makes me feel particularly grateful for the healing efficacy of Christian Science, was my nomination for a United States government award. The nomination not only gave me a happy year of teaching in the United States but it also opened the way for me to visit The Mother Church and attend the Annual Meeting. The medical examination required for the nomination confirmed that I was in good health, and a similar examination for insurance purposes thirty years later had the same result.
Membership over many years in The Mother Church and a branch church has strengthened and enriched me, giving me abundant opportunities for spiritual growth. I feel that I am learning in some degree to follow St. Paul's advice: "Be not conformed to this world" with its false, mortal pictures, "but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God" (Rom. 12:2). I am sincerely grateful for the many blessings that flow to us continuously from our loving Father.
