This testimony, which illustrates the presence and power of the Christ, is very dear to me.

One afternoon I went to a nearby town to visit one of my sons and his wife and four children. When I did not see the youngest one (who was a year and a half old), I inquired about her. They told me she was sleeping because she was not feeling well. She had cried all morning. The parents thought the trouble was indigestion.

My daughter-in-law had to step out for a moment, and I remained in conversation with my son. He was very worried about the child. After I had listened to him for a while, it seemed best to end my visit. So, after handing out the little gifts that I had brought the family, I left.

When I got to the corner of their street I thought to myself, "What are you doing?" I stood as if nailed to the ground. Then I humbly returned to the house I had left. I was welcomed with hugs and kisses by the older children. One of them said to me most lovingly, "How nice that you have come back. I did not want you to go."

By then my daughter-in-law had returned home, and she picked up the littlest girl, who had wakened. I was handed the child to hold in my arms, and I gave her her bottle. She began to take it, then became sick.

The parents quieted her and changed her clothes. The child brightened. As she was used to my taking her to the park, she asked in her baby talk to go on her stroll with me. The parents thought about this for a moment, then felt right about it and gave their consent. The two of us went out.

We walked for a bit, but then my granddaughter asked me to pick her up. This was unusual, for she was normally very lively and on the go. I picked her up and walked around the park, sharing simple truths of Christian Science and singing verses from hymns in the Christian Science Hymnal. I was hoping that the little girl would repeat something of what I was telling her. But she just looked at me with her big, sweet eyes and said nothing. I said to her, very slowly and softly, "God is man's Life," but she remained quiet.

That morning at home, while I was doing my daily study of Christian Science, I had used the Concordance to Mrs. Eddy's writings to look up everything I could on the motherhood of God. I had felt a special need to delve deeply into this subject.

Finally I decided to sit with the child on a stairway in the park. I said to her, "God is Love." My joy couldn't have been greater when the little one, full of laughter, said to me in her baby talk, "Love, love, Mommy, love." That ended the malady and the silence. She was well. Smiling and happy, she began to play with some pebbles she had picked up. And she kept repeating, "Love, love, Mommy, love." I felt in my heart that the love she referred to was really God's love.

I recalled my morning's study, and I felt that God had been preparing me to receive an acknowledgment of His motherhood from the lips of a pure and innocent little child. That is why this testimony is so special to me. I thank our Father-Mother God for this wonderful teaching, Christian Science.
