Words are not enough to express my heartfelt gratitude for...
Words are not enough to express my heartfelt gratitude for Christian Science. This verse in Romans (8:28), "We know that all things work together for good to them that love God," has been proved in our family for three generations. It all started when my grandmother became interested in this Science. At the time she had the responsibility of raising her family alone and was in desperate need. Because of her newfound understanding of God as our loving Father-Mother, those needs were met in remarkable ways.
My grandmother had a severe arthritic condition that made moving very painful. Although the difficulty persisted for many months, she studied the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy earnestly to gain a better understanding of God and to realize the truth of such statements as this one (Science and Health, p. 482): "Sickness is part of the error which Truth casts out." One day she felt confident that the disease was no part of her true being, and she rose from her armchair declaring, "If I truly believe that, I must act like it!" She was instantly healed, and the condition never returned.
We have also had many other healings in our family, including those of influenza, measles, and bronchitis. When the firm I had been working for moved too far for me to commute each day, I had to look for other employment, and the prospects were very discouraging. But I knew that my loving Father-Mother God would guide me to the right place.
During this long period of unemployment, I was especially grateful for the compassionate support of my friends and family. What seemed to be a very difficult situation proved to be a time of recognizing God's loving care. Also, I was able to take courses and develop skills in areas that I would not have had the opportunity to explore otherwise. Those of my friends who are Christian Scientists were very encouraging, for they reminded me that God was truly governing my life, and this fact was proved in unexpected ways.
Eventually I secured a position where I could use my skills and which I continue to find very fulfilling. I have been working at this place for nearly two years now, and I could not be happier. Also, to my joy I have discovered there are three other Christian Scientists working there as well.
A physical healing for which I am very grateful was that of a blocked ear. The condition persisted for a couple of weeks and was very uncomfortable, but I did not give in to it. I knew that, in the words of Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, p. 151), "every function of the real man is governed by the divine Mind." Articles in the Sentinel were very helpful. One Wednesday evening, as I entered our branch Church of Christ, Scientist, for the testimony meeting, I felt very certain that I would come out of that meeting healed. This proved to be so, to my great joy, and I knew that my study and prayer had been effective.
Christian Science is the Science of Christ, Truth, and I am so grateful to be a student of it.
