One day while sky diving with friends, I had an extremely hard...
One day while sky diving with friends, I had an extremely hard landing, using a new parachute. Unwilling to accept this as a satisfactory landing, I repacked the same parachute and reboarded to jump a second time. Again, I experienced a very hard landing. These two landings left me with a painful lower back condition. Other sky divers, noticing my difficulty in moving, expressed concern that I might have broken something. At this, I silently declared that man, as God's idea, is always free and perfect and therefore cannot be harmed. However, a week later, despite steadfast prayer, I still was in constant pain and had sleepless nights. Now I recognized the need for additional help. A Christian Science practitioner was called, and together we worked to awake more fully to God's unerring love.
One evening as I was studying and praying, the thought came to me that I was still believing it was possible to experience a separation or break. Immediately, this erroneous thought was countered with the realization that there can be no separation or breakage in the unity of God and man. At that instant I knew I was healed. I was able to sleep peacefully that night, and I woke up the next morning completely free of pain.
Subsequent sky dives, using even sophisticated parachutes, have all been completed with gentle landings, and I've had a growing appreciation of Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 151), "All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal."
Participation in other outdoor activities such as downhill skiing, water skiing, and scuba diving have all brought satisfaction, freedom, and gratitude for man's innate ability to actively express harmony.
A number of years ago, for no apparent reason my two young sons and I began experiencing large, painful bruises on our legs. Some days walking was difficult, and a couple of school days were missed by the boys. At the time I was serving as Second Reader in our branch church and the boys were active Christian Science Sunday School pupils. When it became difficult for me to walk up the three steps to the Readers' platform, I realized I was being challenged by a mortal sense of existence that would impede the boys' and my growth in Christian Science.
A practitioner was called, and together we worked to recognize that the only power which exists is God and He is good. There is no other intelligence or cause. In approximately two days, the bruises completely disappeared from all three of us. And they never returned.
I am most grateful for all the blessings the study of Christian Science has brought my family; blessings such as an outstandingly successful business, the joy of serving in a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and the enlightenment gained through taking class instruction in Christian Science.
Truly, Mrs. Eddy's discovery is the profound revelation of this age, blessing and healing mankind.
