One day at work I answered the phone but was unable to...

One day at work I answered the phone but was unable to communicate with the other person, even to identify myself or my department. A friend in the office completed the call for me. During this period, in the kindness of others I saw evidence of true brotherhood based on love. Hymn No. 64 in the Christian Science Hymnal says, "The loveliness of Love is all around." I could reason clearly, but I was unable to express myself verbally.

When I arrived home, I had a Christian Science practitioner pray for me. I am grateful that this faithful worker did not discuss the symptoms but instead emphasized my true identity as God's perfect reflection.

With complete humility I turned to the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy to study the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. At this point I was able to read the lesson but unable to retain what I'd read. I turned to the Father in prayer with these words (Ps. 56:4): "In God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me." I felt no fear, nor did I claim this inability to retain as part of my true being.

Use of arm restored

The next day there was no strength in one arm. I saw this, too, as a lie that had never touched God's perfect child, and I did not accept it. I continued with my business as usual, despite the material picture.

Passages such as these were comforting: "Ye must be born again" (John 3:7) and "Whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth" (Heb. 12:6). I welcomed the spiritual rebirth that I knew would come through the purifying influence of divine Love.

Within a few days I was completely well. I am truly grateful for Christian Science and this lesson in obedience. I cannot express in words the joy and peace of mind I am receiving through active church membership.
