For more than forty years now I have been enjoying the blessings to be derived from an earnest study of Christian Science. During that time I became the mother of four fine sons. Since my husband is also a student of Christian Science, we have relied entirely upon Truth, as taught and demonstrated by Mary Baker Eddy, to heal every erroneous condition and solve every problem. Some problems have been solved very quickly, one might say instantaneously, while others have required patience and perseverance. Our children attended the Christian Science Sunday School and learned early to trust God for healing. We all believed implicitly what Mary Baker Eddy tells us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (p. 494): "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." And we have proved it!

In the summer of 1944 we had a testing time, as nearly every child in our vicinity was stricken with measles. Our understanding of Christian Science at that time was not sufficient for us to see the disease as unreal and our children were also stricken.

Our three older children had a very light case of the disease and were soon up and playing happily about the house; but our eleven-month-old son didn't fare so well. Complications set in after the disease. One morning I noticed that one side of his head was larger than the other. Fear took possession of me, and it seemed wise to call a Christian Science practitioner. I did so immediately, and the practitioner lovingly began prayerful treatment for the child.

As he did not improve right away, we called for the services of a Christian Science nurse. She kindly agreed to care for him. At this point he was unconscious most of the time. I provided the nurse with everything for his comfort, and spent every moment —that I could take away from my other three small children—in study and contemplation of the Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly. In addition I studied the first two pages of the Christian Science Platform in Science and Health, paying particular attention to this passage (p. 331): "The Scriptures imply that God is All-in-all. From this it follows that nothing possesses reality nor existence except the divine Mind and His ideas. The Scriptures also declare that God is Spirit. Therefore in Spirit all is harmony, and there can be no discord; all is Life, and there is no death. Everything in God's universe expresses Him."

As I went about my work I sang hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal, and one which was especially comforting at this time was No. 123, which contains these words:

We realized it was a purifying process we were experiencing; and one evening my husband and I very humbly prayed, "Thy will be done," understanding God's will to be all good. I remember saying to the older boys, "Our baby is going to be all right." One of them immediately countered, and it was a gentle rebuke, "Mamma, he's all right now!" And he was!

The next morning our boy was up and playing like any normal child. We all knew a healing had taken place even though the physical manifestation was not apparent for a few days. The head was protruding to a point behind one ear and it appeared that it might open up there, but during the night a draining process started through the ear channel and continued until the head was normal in size. Nine days after we had placed our boy under the nurse's care, and with treatment from a Christian Science practitioner, he was completely healed. The healing was permanent and there have never been any harmful aftereffects. There are no words to express our gratitude for this proof of God's loving care.

Over the years there have been many other healings through scientific prayer. Sprains, colds, flu, smallpox, insect bites, mumps, and chicken pox were healed. In most instances the healings came during, or immediately following, the reading of the Bible Lesson; while the healing of smallpox was effected overnight with the help of a Christian Science practitioner. I was healed of all the symptoms of flu one morning when I took time out from a busy schedule to read Irving C. Tomlinson's book, Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy. When I put the book down about noon I was completely free. The book impressed me with Mrs. Eddy's stalwart trust in God, and the naturalness of her own healing work, illustrating God's power.

I am grateful for Christ Jesus, our Exemplar, and for Mrs. Eddy's untiring efforts in organizing a church that heals as the Master, Christ Jesus, taught his followers to heal.

It is with much joy and gratitude that I verify my wife's testimony. Soon after our marriage in 1933 we were introduced to Christian Science, and we decided then that together we would "climb, with joy, the heights of Mind" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 136). Little did we realize how many opportunities we would be given to prove that "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble" (Ps. 46:1).
