Before becoming interested in Christian Science I had been a heavy smoker most of my life. Many times I had tried to give it up but without success, till one morning I found I had lost the craving for tobacco. I could not understand this, as I had not given it any thought for a very long time. My wife had been a student of Christian Science for five years.
Some three years after I lost the tobacco habit she invited me to accompany her and friends to the Thanksgiving service in a Christian Science church. I did not give an immediate answer but finally agreed, provided I could sit at the back of the church. My wife replied that I could sit where I liked.
When we had almost arrived at the church building, the door was opened and I saw inside. The wonderful feeling that went through me is impossible to describe. On entering, I felt it was my rightful place. It was like a homecoming and was truly wonderful, and I sat in the middle of the congregation. From that time onward church became part of my life.
By the end of the year I had thrown aside drinking and gambling without any trouble or great effort, and my whole life was beginning to take on a new look. Headaches, stomach pains, and muscular troubles all ceased to be. And an explosive temper disappeared with the other bad habits. It became clear to me that my losing the tobacco habit was through my wife's work in Christian Science for the atmosphere of our home.
I am so grateful to God for Mrs. Eddy, and for Christian Science, for the love, joy, and truth it has brought to me. I am also grateful to be a member of The Mother Church and of a branch church.

It is with great gratitude that I verify my husband's testimony. I would like to add that many times he said he couldn't understand why he didn't want to smoke, but I knew why, and I thanked and praised and glorified God for this wonderful healing. When I asked my husband what he thought of the Thanksgiving service, he said it was lovely and he wanted more. My heart was overflowing with love and joy.
I, too, am most grateful for several healings that I have been able to have through prayer for myself, and for membership in The Mother Church and in our branch church.
