After a consultation with five doctors our family was told that our mother could not live more than two or three weeks. The doctors said they could do no more. A sister persuaded her to try Science. After treatment by a Christian Science practitioner she was healed. At my father's insistence she consented to a physical examination. The doctor not only assured us of her complete recovery but gave Christian Science full credit for it. After witnessing this healing I no longer doubted the healing power of Science, but I was not ready to accept it for myself.

During a flu epidemic I became quite ill. A number of the employees were already out of our office, and I was needed. I decided to put Christian Science to the test. I called on the same practitioner who had helped my mother. Up to this time I had never read a word of Christian Science literature, but I was healed and from that day on, for over forty years, Christian Science has been my only physician.

To help pay his college tuition, my oldest son took a job on the cleaning crew of an airline. After he had been working late one night, he went to sleep at the wheel of his car on the way home, crossed over the double line into heavy morning traffic, and hit another car head-on. No one was injured in the other car, but my son was taken to the hospital, where I was told he had a concussion. After releasing the hospital from all responsibility, I was permitted to take him home, but I was warned there might be dire results.

We reversed every suggestion of injury as it appeared. A practitioner was prayerfully supporting us through it all. Because my son had been required to work unreasonable hours, and this seemed to lead to the accident, we earnestly prayed that the resentment and antagonism in our thought be replaced with love, compassion, and understanding. We wanted very much to fulfill the spirit of one of the tenets of Christian Science that reads in part (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 497): "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us." We prayed without ceasing.

In three days my son was completely recovered. He was even able to do his share in helping to move six rooms of furniture, without any harm to himself. His supervisor showed a sincere desire to help in any way he could. The company not only gave my son a two-week paid leave of absence but paid all his expenses, including the practitioner's charges.

Because of pressure as a result of a cut in the staff where I worked, I allowed resentment to enter into my thought to the point where I became very ill. I asked for time off and went into the home of a dear friend. Together we studied the Bible, and the textbook, Science and Health, and other writings of Mrs. Eddy, some days working through the day, stopping only long enough for meals. At the end of two weeks I was completely cured. When I returned to the office, the treasurer of the company said he had always believed Christian Science to be a hoax, but that my complete recovery had wiped this all out, because he had never expected to see me behind my desk again.

More recently I had an opportunity to devote my full time to the study of Christian Science. At the end of three months an ugly-growth on my nose had disappeared. What a joy it was when I realized that my growth in understanding the laws of God, Spirit, had completely dissolved the belief of a false material growth!
