"O THOU THAT HEAREST PRAYER..."

psalm 65:2

"O thou that hearest prayer, unto thee shall all flesh come."
All men may bring their questions and their pleas
To God, the all-knowing Mind; and He will resolve them
Down to their uttermost complexities.

All flesh, the urgent demandings of our bodies
And the still deeper hungers of our hearts,
Will find tranquillity in God, who steadies
The wild pulsebeat, its fitful stops and starts.

We ask for health and God restores our wholeness;
We ask companionship and God befriends;
We ask refreshment and we feel His coolness;
We ask support and know His sheltering hands.

We ask provision, and God's wise providing
Is ours to rightly use and freely share;
We ask His counsel, and with certain guiding
He leads us safely through the ice and fire.

All flesh must come to Spirit for its redeeming,
Its storms be stilled, its locust-years restored.
"O thou that hearest prayer"—these words, acclaiming
God's nature, assure us all our prayers are heard.
