Since my parents first became interested in Christian Science, I...

Since my parents first became interested in Christian Science, I have had many healings. Three are particularly memorable.

I was healthy at birth and started walking at the normal time, but then I became ill with pneumonia, and did not walk again until three years had passed. I entered school late, was absent much of the time and under medical care until I was fifteen. My parents then decided to try Christian Science treatment. I was invited to spend a few days in the home of a Christian Science practitioner. Before the stay was over, I walked around that city with joy and freedom. Returning home, I was well and have enjoyed better health since.

We did not then study Christian Science regularly, and in 1927, I became extremely ill with influenza. Two doctors were in attendance. I became unconscious. There had been continual heavy loss of blood from a hemorrhage, which could not be entirely stopped by a plug placed in the throat and nasal passages by the doctors.

My parents, aware of the critical condition, dismissed the doctors and called a Christian Science practitioner. Within a few minutes of her arrival from a distant town I regained consciousness. Remarkably, at the same time, the plug which had been placed by the doctors broke away. There was no further bleeding. Recovery took some time, but improvement was steady and the healing complete. The family then began to study Christian Science.

The third, to me, outstanding healing occurred in 1952. I was faced with a new and demanding job with a different organization to which I had transferred from another state.

Much reading was necessary. My eyesight began to fail, both near and distant vision. This made reading difficult, and it became a handicap in driving a car.

A consecrated Christian Science teacher helped me through prayer. This enabled me to perceive in some degree that man is spiritual, that his vision does not depend upon a material organ. As we read in the textbook: "When Jesus declares that 'the light of the body is the eye,' he certainly means that light depends upon Mind, not upon the complex humors, lenses, muscles, the iris and pupil, constituting the visual organism" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 393).

Almost immediately there was improvement, although blurred and double vision persisted for a time. Such was the effectiveness of the prayerful work done for me that I felt assurance of eventual freedom. I continued to work and to pray as we are taught to do in Science. Within about a year's time my vision was perfect, and it has remained so.

I feel deep gratitude for these healings and for the guidance in daily life obtained from the study and application of Christian Science.

Mrs. Eddy, the faithful follower of Christ Jesus, was God-inspired to discover the Science of his healing works, and to found and lead this great religious movement. To her belongs our gratitude.
