Healing by handling animal magnetism

Physical discords are not realities. They are products of animal magnetism—false mental images produced hypnotically in human thought by a suppositional carnal, or mortal, mind. Realize that there is no mind apart from God, divine Mind, and we destroy the seeming power of the suppositional mind. This leaves us free to enjoy the harmony of God, divine Mind.

To the material senses matter and physical discords seem real. But these senses are themselves false objects and agents of the counterfeit mortal mind. Deny the power of animal magnetism and we see the nothingness of these physical evidences and of the senses bearing witness to them. They disappear, for they have no more substance than images in a dream. The erroneous belief that there is a power and life apart from God, good, can no longer cause fear and suffering when we handle animal magnetism— that is, see that its claim to power is false. Power belongs entirely to God.

In order to heal any physical discord, therefore, the need is always the same—to destroy the suppositional magnetic power of mortal mind by recognizing the supremacy of the one Mind. This true idea of God, good, is the Christ, the true influence in human consciousness that frees oneself and one's patient from the images of disease and discord.

Animal magnetism is rightly handled from the basis of its powerlessness and total unreality. Mrs. Eddy writes, "Animal magnetism has no scientific foundation, for God governs all that is real, harmonious, and eternal, and His power is neither animal nor human." Science and Health, p. 102.

When we see that Christ, Truth, is the only real force in human consciousness, we can recognize that the patient has never been drawn away from the perfection of his divine source. We can bear witness to the presence and power of the one Mind. And this power heals.
