What a privilege it is to be able to testify to the healing power of God! As a lifelong student of Christian Science, I am deeply grateful for the steadfastness and courage exercised by my mother in her early study of Christian Science. Attendance as a pupil in a Christian Science Sunday School and church membership were stepping-stones to the many healings that have taken place in my experience.

My husband, who is a devoted student of this religion, had a beautiful healing of ulcerated colitis, which brought him into Christian Science after our marriage. Our two teen-age sons attend Sunday School and have had many healings, including a broken wrist, tonsillitis, and the putting aside of glasses. Their understanding of God as the source of intelligence has always been effective, and they have acknowledged the good results of their prayers.

The spiritual growth that came to me while proving that God is the only healer is a blessing that words can never adequately express. Throughout the years I had never properly handled the belief of heredity and the fear of cancer. Several deaths in my father's family had been attributed to this cause; and when my father, who was not a Christian Scientist, was told that he had cancer of the throat, I failed to see the unreality of this disease. While he was in the hospital undergoing surgery, I noticed a lump on my breast, and shortly after, something seemed to be developing in my throat. Although my fear was very great, I recognized the completely mental nature of disease. I knew that once the fear was handled and my thinking disciplined, healing would take place.

I had help from a dedicated practitioner, and I shall never cease to be grateful for the truths he poured into my awakened consciousness. He told me to recognize that a fearful thought was not my thought, but that my thoughts were Godlike, fearless, and healthy. This was a turning point for me, because from that time on I was able to handle fear, even though the problems did not yield for some time.

I read the Bible, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and the Christian Science periodicals from early morning to night. And, while performing only the essential household tasks, I listened to Christian Science records. The loving support of my husband was a source of inspiration and strength, for he never doubted that I would be healed. Each day was filled with spiritual unfoldment, and I continually thanked God for His allness, goodness, presence, and power, and my unity with Him.

The complete healing took about a year; and during that time, with the exception of my husband, no one, not even our children, knew I was working out a problem. I never missed a church service or failed to serve on my committee work. At a time when the struggle seemed very great, I was elected to serve as assistant Reading Room librarian, and I accepted without hesitation. Unfaltering trust was needed when a large deposit had to be placed on a trip we planned to take in six months.

A Bible verse gave me great spiritual uplift (I Cor. 10:13): "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

My humble prayer is to live a life that is truly representative of Christian Science. My deep gratitude goes out to God for our Master, Christ Jesus, and for Mrs. Eddy for her revelation of this practical healing truth.
