My introduction to Christian Science came when I was studying for a career as a pharmaceutical chemist, and I attended my first service in a Church of Christ, Scientist, simply because of rain. I entered the church to escape the weather. As a result my whole life changed. I began the study of this Science, and I was soon healed of the smoking habit. The way opened for a career in another business, and this proved most successful and fruitful in all aspects.

With unbounded gratitude to God for His loving care in provision and protection, for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and for Mrs. Eddy, who in her writings has opened the Bible for all who will, to read, understand, and apply to solving everyday problems, I testify to the efficacy of the teachings of Christian Science.

Many healings have been experienced and witnessed in my family, including a daughter's healing of shingles in two to three days. The same daughter in later years was instantaneously healed of the painful results of having a fish bone lodged in her throat. The distressing condition had persisted all day. When I was calling to see her in the evening, she told me her throat was then very painful and sore. As she was saying this these angel thoughts from the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, came to me (p.393): "Be firm in your understanding that the divine Mind governs, and that in Science man reflects God's government," and from the Bible (Hebr. 4:12): "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." No audible words were spoken. Immediately following these thoughts my daughter said, "Thank you, Dad, it's gone." We rejoiced in the healing silently without any more comment.

The effects of accidents have been overcome either instantaneously or very quickly. In one instance a son's crushed hand was healed upon our declaring the truth that no accidents can occur in God's kingdom, where harmony reigns. We repeated quietly to him the Lord's Prayer, followed by "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health. One part states (p. 468): "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness. Therefore man is not material; he is spiritual." This quiet praying together was immediately effective. The healing was complete, and all evidence of an injury vanished at that time.

I was healed of an unknown malady and, although death had seemed near, I returned to business in a few days. On this occasion my wife stood with me, holding to Mrs. Eddy's teaching that Life is eternal and not in matter. The decision to trust God completely was the turning point.

To "stand porter at the door of thought," as Mrs. Eddy counsels (ibid., p. 392), is indeed provable wisdom.
