As a young child I was healed in Christian Science of a physical disease that affected the joints of my body and made it impossible for me to walk freely. The healing took several weeks, but with treatment by a Christian Science practitioner the difficulty was overcome. This healing has always stood out to me as an example of the healing efficacy of Christian Science.

Christian Science gave me strength and courage when our first baby was stillborn. This was a period of great discouragement for me, and I spent many hours studying the Bible and the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. I needed to evaluate my thinking properly, to replace the erroneous beliefs of discouragement, condemnation, heredity, and fear with a scientific understanding of man's spiritual, perfect nature as an idea of God. A year later I gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Through the help of a dedicated Christian Science practitioner the birth was quick and harmonious.

When this child was three, he was healed quickly of what appeared to be the beginning symptoms of the measles. We spent most of the night declaring the truths of God and of man as His perfect child. Since there did not seem to be much improvement in the morning, I called a practitioner for help. During my own study the thought came clearly to me that disease does not have to go through certain stages before it is overcome. Mrs. Eddy writes (ibid., p. 391): "Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them. Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result." By noon there still was no visible improvement in the physical condition, but I felt that the healing was taking place. The boy ate some fruit for lunch and took a peaceful nap. I had such a feeling of peace about him that I was able to go about my household tasks. When he awoke from the nap, the cough and fever began to vanish, and by evening his condition was normal.

I am grateful for many more healings that I have had through my own prayer in Christian Science. Some of these healings have been those of colds, flu, what seemed to be appendicitis attacks, and sprained ankles. Lost articles have been located. My gratitude goes out to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, for Mrs. Eddy, and for the privilege of class instruction.
