My grandmother proved that Christian Science heals when her young daughter was healed of whooping cough by relying solely upon this Science. Since that time it has continued to bless my family.
I was raised in the Christian Science Sunday School, and during my final two years there I really made this Science my own and learned to love it and practice its teachings in daily life. Later I married a sincere Christian Scientist, who was able to give tender consideration and clear metaphysical support when I was told by the woman physician whom I had chosen to attend the birth of our first child that because of a serious mechanical difficulty I could not have this child, or likely any other. I was told to go home to bed and await a miscarriage.
We called a dear friend, a Christian Science practitioner, who assured us that she would help me right away. My husband, the practioner, and I continued to work and pray to know that God was the only cause and creator and that each one of His beloved children was upheld by His love.
The doctor wanted to see me every week for a checkup. Each week for four weeks there was no improvement, only the doctor's surprise that I had not yet lost the child. The practitioner, of course, was pleased that her work had been effective in removing the fear of losing a child. I was again joyous and confident and just stayed with this statement in the Bible: "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him" (Ezek. 21:27).
The very next week the doctor examined me with amazement and said, "I can't understand it, but you are all right now and you can go back to work." I can sincerely say, as Paul said to the Corinthians, "Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities" (II Cor. 12:10), for without this experience we would not have grown in our understanding of the spiritual creation of man. Nor would we have come so soon, perhaps, to comprehend Mrs. Eddy's statement given on page 258 of Science and Health, "Never born and never dying, it were impossible for man, under the government of God in eternal Science, to fall from his high estate."
The baby daughter came quickly and almost painlessly, and after my final visit to the doctor, she said she had never seen anything like it. She remarked, "It is as if you had never had a baby." We have since had another daughter and a son. The three are enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School and are learning to love God as Father and Mother, to know the Christ, the true idea of God, and to revere Mrs. Eddy. I love Christian Science, I adore my God and His Christ, and I am most grateful for Mrs. Eddy.
