The Healing Touch of the Christ
Christ Jesus, the great Metaphysician, and our Way-shower to eternal Life, proved that the healing touch of the Christ, Truth, is here, practical and always available. The Bible shows that those who humbly and trustingly turn to the Christ, God's true idea, find protection, supply, guidance, and freedom.
Jesus expressed this immortal idea of God, Spirit, and proved through his works the power of divine Mind to heal the ills of the flesh. The Bible tells us, "His fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them." Matt. 4:24;
How can we gain and use this healing and saving Christ, Truth? Christian Science explains that as one learns to see each individual as the spiritual, whole, spotless, and eternal idea of Spirit, Love, he is expressing the Christ. He is seeing man as the true reflection of Soul, Spirit, the immortal son of the heavenly Father. Such spiritual realization enables one to reject the mortal mind suggestions of fear, ignorance, sin, or pain as any part of one's spiritual being. As a result one's consciousness is being spiritualized; he accepts into his experience a higher sense of purity, wisdom, health, and mercy and a more active love for God and His perfect expression, man.
It is essential to take time to ponder the spiritual things of God and His reflection, man, for we are then aware of being nourished with Spirit's tender, loving thoughts; also, we become convinced that the healing touch of Love's idea is real, health-giving and life-giving, now.
A Christian Science practitioner had often studied this statement in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." Science and Health, p. 332; He prayed to see this "idea," this perfect heir of Love, expressed more clearly in himself and others.
One morning he received a call for help. A woman said her mother, a sincere student of Science, was unconscious, that her body was stiff and she appeared to be passing on. Immediately reaching out to the Christ, "the true idea voicing good," the practitioner prayed to see that man is actually spiritual consciousness. He can never be unconscious. He realized that man knows he is spiritual. He is perfect and upright because he is the child of the Father-Mother Mother God. The practitioner knew that since man is the image of Spirit he does not depend upon blood or upon flesh. He understood that fear and old age can never touch a spiritual idea. With conviction he declared that God alone is man's Life.
The false testimony of the material senses was abolished. Later the report came in that the mother was fully conscious and free. She was studying the Bible and Science and Health. This woman was ninety-seven at the time and is still active now.
It is true that when one acknowledges the allness of Love and the Christ as the image of Love, Spirit, he can see the unreality of fear. Where there is no fearful thought there can be no trace or visible sign of sickness or pain.
One time a friend told the writer, in effect, "For one look at error, take ten at the Christ." This meant to the writer that no matter how overwhelming a problem of disease, lack, sin, or even death appears to be, we can do something about it. We can turn our thought completely away from the problem by understanding that since divine Mind is All, there is no opposite. One can keep looking at the Christ, the true selfhood of all individuality that lives and moves in Mind always. As the light of Truth permeates his thought, the problem will melt away to nothing, just as ice melts before the sunshine. After all, it is never true to God.
Right now we can demonstrate the power of Truth, the healing touch of the Christ, by bringing freedom to the receptive thought of our fellowmen. One must never be afraid to offer this truth to any individual when he sees him reaching out for right answers. We can prove that "now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ." Rev. 12:10;
It is never too late to find our oneness or sonship with our heavenly Father. He is the only deliverer, the everlasting God. Christian Science is the Comforter, which is bringing this truth to light as Jesus promised. It assures us in Mrs. Eddy's words, "All must sooner or later plant themselves in Christ, the true idea of God." Science and Health, p. 54.
