Christian Science has been my family's religion for four generations

Christian Science has been my family's religion for four generations. Physical difficulties, far too numerous to relate, have been healed down through the years, and many major and minor daily problems have been overcome.

When one of our daughters was a year and a half old, she became afflicted with eczema. My wife and I worked diligently, as we had been taught in Christian Science, to see the nothingness of this erroneous condition, but the disease began to spread. We engaged the services of a Christian Science practitioner, and the child began to improve. The healing did not come quickly, since much needful spiritual growth had to take place in our thinking regarding the child and we had to learn our real responsibility of seeing God as the only true parent. The passages in Science and Health on pages 412 to 414, where Mrs. Eddy discusses the handling of the needs of children, were particularly helpful. Soon the child was healed, and the healing has been permanent. This occurred nine years ago.

Several years later one of our other children became quite ill. The condition was not diagnosed, although the child became listless, could not take any food, and seemed to be in pain. We again called a Christian Science practitioner, whose work helped immediately to dispel our fear. He talked to us at length about our Godgiven ability to refute and prove unreal the false picture before us, and diligently supported our understanding of the truth of the child's immortal spiritual nature in God's likeness.

One afternoon, about three days later, I was summoned home from work early, as the child's condition appeared to be getting worse. I picked her up in my arms and began declaring the truth aloud. The evidences of disease and death were almost overwhelming, but at the same time came the angel thought that we must rise above, not wade through, this false picture. This angel thought stood out like a beacon as I continued to declare the truth aloud. "The scientific statement of being," including the words, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all" (Science and Health, p. 468) was particularly helpful.

Soon I felt a sense of peace and joy about the child that was indescribable. Her appearance had not changed, but I knew firmly and fearlessly that she was in God's hands. I laid her back down and tended to some other duties. The next morning the child was well! She immediately began to eat and to walk in a normal manner. That weekend we had planned an outing and a trip to a museum for the children. The child took part in these activities with complete freedom, walking up and down stairs and out of doors in winter weather.

Words simply cannot describe my gratitude for the good that has come to me and other members of my family through the study and application of Christian Science. I have been healed of colds, influenza, injuries suffered in athletics, sprained ankles, torn ligaments, and other difficulties. Other healings of our children have included an abscess on the side of the neck. This passed off through mental surgery alone. The child first mentioned had an infection on the inside of her ear. This also was healed through mental surgery.

My gratitude goes out to Mrs. Eddy, who revealed to the world the full and final Science of Christianity with which we may work out our daily problems and grow without measure in spiritual understanding. For membership in The Mother Church, for the privilege of serving in branch church activity, and for the priceless experience of class instruction, I am most grateful.

I should like to verify the testimony of my husband. Each of these healings has been an inspiration to me. The first one mentioned is especially memorable because I was a new student of Christian Science. I learned to begin each day by placing the child in God's loving care and then vigorously and persistently claiming her purity and perfection as God's image and likeness.

I am very grateful for the understanding of God as Father-Mother, the only real parent.
