Continuing progress and rich blessings which have flowed to me...

Continuing progress and rich blessings which have flowed to me through the study and application of the teachings of Christian Science for a long period of time impel my desire to relate briefly some of the experiences which have marked this progress.

An unpromising background, a lack of formal education, and the loss of my parents at an early age seemed to place me at a severe disadvantage. Envy at the progress and success of others gnawed at me and afflicted me greatly, since it seemed that I was not only untalented but also, in the world's eyes, unlucky in my lot as a humble employee in what was considered a dead-end job.

I became a prey to vicious propaganda and even imagined I was justified in giving as little as possible to my employers while taking as much as possible from them, since I was persuaded that my employers had no regard for me excepting as a means to enrich themselves while giving me as little as possible.

According to this twisted logic, my hostile attitude was justified. This negative cycle of impoverished and ungenerous thinking at length produced a harvest of bitter fruit which resulted in great mental discord and finally in a severe and frightening illness.

At this stage I turned in desperation to Christian Science, which I had desultorily studied some years previously. The realization then suddenly dawned upon me that the Augean stables of years of perverted thinking and false estimates of both myself and my fellowmen were indeed in need of a great cleansing. I studied the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, assiduously. A frequent pondering of the words (p. 324), "The purification of sense and self is a proof of progress," began to fill me with new hope.

Little by little the wrong habits, begotten of limited, selfish motives, were replaced with generous, spiritual, unselfish thoughts and actions and, in the wake of this new orientation of outlook, came vast changes in every avenue of my experience.

Unsuspected dormant talents soon began to be effortlessly expressed. My lack of formal education was surmounted by a rapid acquisition of skills in specialized work. Studies were undertaken resulting in the gaining of increased abilities, and the recognition of these abilities led eventually to appointment to executive status in an important commercial enterprise. Not the least change was the complete healing of the physical illness.

But more wonderful was the remarkable regeneration of character and the transformation of my mental world from miry darkness and despair into radiant light, joy, and abundant health—an enduring testament to the healing power of Christian Science.

I need scarcely add that my gratitude to God for Christ Jesus, for Christian Science, and for Mrs. Eddy, its Discoverer and Founder, continues to grow and to enrich my present experience.
